چکیده
In this paper, a comprehensive numerical study is presented for the fully developed two-dimensional flow of viscous incompressible fluid through a curved duct with square cross section. Numerical calculations are carried out over a wide range of the Dean number 6500 100 Dn for the curvature 5 . 0 . A temperature difference is applied across the vertical sidewalls for the Grashof number 100 Gr , where the outer wall is heated and the inner one cooled. Spectral method is used as a basic tool to solve the system of non-linear differential equations. After a compressive survey over the parametric ranges, two branches of asymmetric steady solutions with twoand four-vortex solutions are obtained by the NewtonRaphson iteration method. Then, in order to investigate the non-linear behavior of the unsteady solutions, time evolution calculations as well as power spectrum of the solutions are obtained, and it is found that the steady-state flow turns into periodic flow through chaotic flows if Dn is increased up to 6115. For large Dean numbers 6065 Dn , however, the unsteady flow undergoes through various flow instabilities if, Dn is increased gradually.

متن کاملTravelling waves in a straight square duct
Isothermal, incompressible flow in a straight duct with square cross-section is known to be linearly stable [1]. Direct numerical simulation, on the other hand, has revealed that turbulence in this geometry is self-sustained above a Reynolds number value of approximately 1100, based on the bulk velocity and the duct half-width [2]. Numerous non-linear equilibrium solutions have already been ide...
متن کاملCuO/water Nanofluid Convective Heat Transfer Through Square Duct Under Uniform Heat Flux
Sometimes the need for non-circular ducts arises in many heat transfer applications because of lower pressure drop of non-circular cross section such as square duct compared to circular tube, particularly in compact heat. But square cross section has poor heat transfer performance and it is expected that using a nanofluid as a new heat transfer media may improve the heat transfer performance of...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Effect of Nanoparticles Mean Diameter on Turbulent Mixed Convection of a Nanofluid in a Horizontal Curved tube Using a Two Phase Approach
Turbulent mixed convection of a nanofluid (water/Al2O3, Φ=.02) has been studied numerically. Two-phase mixture model has been used to investigate the effects of nanoparticles mean diameter on the flow parameters. Nanoparticles distribution at the tube cross section shows that the particles are uniformly dispersed. The non-uniformity of the particles distribution occurs in the case of large nano...
